It speculates on the location of Hemingway's 1919 trip to the Seney area by comparing text in the short story to analysis by Prof. Jack Jobst and weaves details about our family camping/canoeing trip on the Fox River in August 2010 with information about the science of stream ecology, entomology, and water resource management.
About the Contributors...
Madeleine Hart and David Hart

Madeleine Hart is a student at Madison West High School.

David Hart is the Geographic Information Systems Specialist at the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute. Through this position, he conducts research and provides outreach that supports sustainable coastal development along the Great Lakes.

Web: http://maps.aqua.wisc.edu/dhart.htm

Besides being the very first Google Lit Trip based upon a short story, David and Madeleine Hart have taken Google Lit Trips into all new territory as they combined details from Ernest Hemingway’s short story, “The Big Two-Hearted River” with experiences they had on a family vacation. It includes several incredible 360º panorama photographs of the locations they visited along the way. And, it also includes a remarkable collection of resources relating to the science and management information supporting trout fishing!
This Google Earth KMZ file, along with more information about teaching with virtual globes, is also available at Great Lakes Mapping Mashups (http://greatlakesmashups.net/stonelab2010/).

In his work he tells the most beautiful and interesting episodes of Portugal’s history.
Montesquieu said, “the discovery of Mozambique, of Melinda and Calcutta has been sung by Camoens, whose poem has something of the charm of the Odyssey and of the magnificence of the Æneid”
About the Contributor...

Teresa Pombo Pereira
http://www.profteresa.net
http://blogicament.blogspot.com
Greetings from Portugal...
I’m a Portuguese Language Teacher (you’d say Language Arts) since 1993.
Submitted by Matthew Hart, Granada High School, Livermore, CA
Placing the Odyssey’s locales is difficult. There are several different versions competing, all backed by serious critics. One new book actually suggests that Troy was located in England!
I’ve included two versions here. The Odyssey-1B.kmz is a very traditional, Greek-mainland-centric version. The Odyssey-2B.kmz is a more modern, Mediterranean-wide version. My preference is the second version as it lines up better with Virgil and makes more sense in some key spots.

New! Read Google Book Search Results for The Odyssey
